The ways Shakespeare presents the character of Viola in Act One Scenes Two and Four Essay Example For Students
The ways Shakespeare presents the character of Viola in Act One Scenes Two and Four Essay Viola makes her entrance into the play in Scene 2, when she emerges out of the sea after a ship wreck. She is distraught the first time we meet her, as she has just lost her twin brother in the ship wreck. The fact that she is so distraught needs to be emphasised in the staging of the play; I think a girly, vulnerable yelp, as well as almost hysterical tears would be appropriate. This is the only time in the play where Viola is openly female and vulnerable and therefore I feel that this needs to be emphasised to the audience. We will write a custom essay on The ways Shakespeare presents the character of Viola in Act One Scenes Two and Four specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now One of the most interesting questions I had about Viola was why she did not go home after the ship wreck. It cannot be that she did not have enough money, as we know she does, For saying so theres gold. It also could not be that home is too far away, as Orsino had been mentioned by her father, I have heard my father name him. I think that the reason Viola does not go home is because there is nothing left for her there, as we know her father has died, My father had a mole upon his brow. We can tell this from the use of the past tense. Her mother is also not mentioned at all in the play, apart from in a figure of speech by Sebastian. Therefore I feel that Viola has no family left in where she lived before, so she would have no need to go back there. Another reason I feel she would not want to go back to her home country is that if she was there she would have to mourn for her brother in the way Olivia has to mourn for hers. Viola would not like to mourn for her brother the way Olivia is; as it would not be for herself it would be for other people. This therefore shows the contrast between the two womens ways of mourning. When the captain tells Viola that Olivia has also lost her brother, Viola instantly sees a parallel between them and wants to go serve her, O that I served that lady. This shows Violas instinctive to help others and her natural urge to care for others. She wants to help Olivia get through what she is also going through. The captain tells Viola that there is a chance that Sebastian, her brother may have survived, I saw him hold acquaintance with the waves/So long as I could see. I think the reason he says this, whether it is necessary true or not, is because he saw that Viola was ready to throw herself back into the waves, as she was without her brother. However by saying this, the Captain is giving Viola some hope to cling on to. Viola is so glad that she gives the captain some gold. I think the essential role of the captain in the play is to lift the spirits of Viola, so the play does continue and she does decide to live on. He is also there to create a parallel between the relationship of Viola and the captain and Sebastian and Antonio. The captain and Viola are shown to get on well, but like Antonio with Sebastian, the captain will do anything for Viola. As well as showing this through the words, Shakespeare also shows this through use of language, In Scene 2 the question of why does Viola cross dress is raised. For me there are many reasons why Viola does this. There are first the more practical reasons of as a man it is easier to find work and there is the obvious advantage of more freedom. However, as Viola is the daughter of someone important, and she herself is a noblewoman, she could go tell people who she really is and be helped by them. Therefore I think Viola chooses to be in disguise so she can mourn alone and in her own way. .ud0f88dfcfc94b8085f09800453f99989 , .ud0f88dfcfc94b8085f09800453f99989 .postImageUrl , .ud0f88dfcfc94b8085f09800453f99989 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ud0f88dfcfc94b8085f09800453f99989 , .ud0f88dfcfc94b8085f09800453f99989:hover , .ud0f88dfcfc94b8085f09800453f99989:visited , .ud0f88dfcfc94b8085f09800453f99989:active { border:0!important; } .ud0f88dfcfc94b8085f09800453f99989 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ud0f88dfcfc94b8085f09800453f99989 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ud0f88dfcfc94b8085f09800453f99989:active , .ud0f88dfcfc94b8085f09800453f99989:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ud0f88dfcfc94b8085f09800453f99989 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ud0f88dfcfc94b8085f09800453f99989 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ud0f88dfcfc94b8085f09800453f99989 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ud0f88dfcfc94b8085f09800453f99989 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ud0f88dfcfc94b8085f09800453f99989:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ud0f88dfcfc94b8085f09800453f99989 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ud0f88dfcfc94b8085f09800453f99989 .ud0f88dfcfc94b8085f09800453f99989-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ud0f88dfcfc94b8085f09800453f99989:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Shakespeare And His Theater EssayThere is also the factor that as she will be busy being a servant and will not have time to dwell on thoughts of her brother. It is as if she is trying to create a safe haven for herself to recover in. She is making herself invisible to the rest of the world till she is ready to face them as herself again. By dressing up as a man Viola is also essentially becoming Sebastian, as she will look like him and when she looks in the mirror she will see him. It is a way of combining herself and her twin into one body and letting him live on. I think it is important that this part of Scene two where she decides to live as a man in Illyria is staged appropriately so it does not seem too much of a random thought for Viola to have. The way I would do this is by having Sebastians trunk on the edge of the shore, as though it has drifted in from the shipwreck. This way it will look as though Viola has seen the trunk and as well as getting memories of Sebastian from it, she will also think of this idea of cross dressing to be a man. It will also emphasise the fact that when she is cross dressing she is trying to let Sebastian live on in the exterior of herself. In Scene 4 Viola makes her second appearance in the play apart from this time she is a man; Cesario. She is also with Orsino, whom she is now a servant for. This is an important transformation; not only will she have to act appropriately, but her costume should also realistically show her to be a girl dressed up to be a boy in the dress of the time, but also so people would not know she was a girl. At the time Twelfth Night was first performed the person playing Viola would have being a boy playing a girl playing a boy. This would be perhaps even more confusing for the audience and may have even made it harder to stage. I would dress Cesario in a simple costume like one that a servant in the Elizabethan times would wear. The reason I think it should be simple is that so it is realistic; in many productions I have seen the costume that Cesario is wearing is too fancy for a boy and a servant. Another important aspect of the staging in this scene is how to stage the relationship between Orsino and Cesario. The reason this is so important is because of the sexual ambiguity in the relationship between Orsino and Cesario. To show this sexual ambiguity I would create sexual tension on stage by making it seem awkward when they sit next to each other on a bench. This sexual ambiguity is shown through the fact that after only three days, already Orsino has told Cesario all about his love for Olivia because he has been so impressed by him. The love between could be seen as platonic or perhaps even paternal as Cesario is a lot younger than Orsino. However for me the love between them is a sublime platonic love with a hint of homoerotic. The fact that Orsino has told Cesario all this shows that Cesario inspires trust. We can also see this from the fact that Orsino trusts Cesario to go tell Olivia how he feels, but this could also show Orsinos idleness. In Scene 4 Orsino asks Cesario to go tell Olivia how he feels for Olivia; sending messengers, instead of going yourself was a traditional aspect of courtly love. I think Orsino has chosen Cesario to do this job because not only does he trust him, but he sees in Cesario himself in his youth. Orsino may think that Cesarios youth would be a good portrayal of him and may make Olivia associate Orsino with Cesarios youth. It is also interesting to note how Viola reacts to this proposal of Orsinos. She does not seem to keen, I think not so, my lord. Orsino can see the failings of Orsinos plan already; she is more perceptive and is showing her female intuition. .ufd663130ccd84c130bf51b524ebd01a7 , .ufd663130ccd84c130bf51b524ebd01a7 .postImageUrl , .ufd663130ccd84c130bf51b524ebd01a7 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ufd663130ccd84c130bf51b524ebd01a7 , .ufd663130ccd84c130bf51b524ebd01a7:hover , .ufd663130ccd84c130bf51b524ebd01a7:visited , .ufd663130ccd84c130bf51b524ebd01a7:active { border:0!important; } .ufd663130ccd84c130bf51b524ebd01a7 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ufd663130ccd84c130bf51b524ebd01a7 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ufd663130ccd84c130bf51b524ebd01a7:active , .ufd663130ccd84c130bf51b524ebd01a7:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ufd663130ccd84c130bf51b524ebd01a7 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ufd663130ccd84c130bf51b524ebd01a7 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ufd663130ccd84c130bf51b524ebd01a7 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ufd663130ccd84c130bf51b524ebd01a7 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ufd663130ccd84c130bf51b524ebd01a7:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ufd663130ccd84c130bf51b524ebd01a7 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ufd663130ccd84c130bf51b524ebd01a7 .ufd663130ccd84c130bf51b524ebd01a7-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ufd663130ccd84c130bf51b524ebd01a7:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The Main Themes in "The Merchant of Venice"Scene 4 ends with the rhyming couplet; Yet, a barful strife!/Whoeer I woo, myself would be his wife, spoken by Cesario/Viola. This reminds the audience that Cesario is a girl and lets the audience know Violas feelings for Orsino, adding more confusion to the already confused plot. She notifies the audience that her feelings will make wooing Olivia on behalf of Orsino an even more of a difficult task than it already is. However Viola is still going to carry out this task showing her braveness, as well as how she would do anything for him. It is an almost selfless act, as if she does manage to make Orsinos love for Olivia requited, she will never have her wish of marrying him. In conclusion I think Shakespeare presents Viola in a brave, caring way, which has led to her being considered as one of Shakespeares golden girls. She is almost shown to be a heroine. The reason I think she has being presented by Shakespeare like this is to show the contrasts in the Elizabethan society between people of different natures as well as status. The fact that Viola decides to cross dress also ties in with it as the fact she that she is brave and a conformist, as this is what she is doing when she cross dresses. However I do feel that for all these ideas about Violas character to come across affectively to the audience these scenes need to be staged appropriately.

Allegory of Corkscrew Essays
Allegory of Corkscrew Essays Allegory of Corkscrew Essay Allegory of Corkscrew Essay The excerpt of Corkscrew by Dashiell Hammett, dramatizes the trip and arrival of the narrator to a town called Corkscrew, however, in reality the narrator finds himself amidst an allegorical journey to hell. In the opening passage, in order to emphasize the representative setting the author uses a simile to reveal the excruciating, unendurable, and discomforting heat. Along with the implementation of an allusion the writer affirms that people must confront hell alone. As the speaker arrives to Corkscrew the author depicts the narrator with a poignant tone due to hyperbole voiced as he wished for the end of his life. Notably, Hammett also integrates visual imagery in order to represent the final arrival to hell. Hammett exhibits the inhabitants of inferno, utilizing alliteration, satire, and a symbol to embody the peoples unhealthy morals. Therefore, in Corkscrew by Dashiell Hammett, the allegorical aspect of the journey becomes clear due to the setting of the harrowing journey and profligate Corkscrew. Through the characterization of the narrator and Corkscrews citizens, Hammett accentuates that immoral people constituting his pandemonium. Hammett starts his work with an unbearable, solitary, and unconventional trip to Corkscrew, illustrating the narrators symbolic setting. The excerpt starts with complaints from the narrator that he was boiling like a coffeepot, in the white dust of the Arizona desert. The usage of the simile boiling like a coffeepot transmits the unbearable condition of the day; metaphorically presenting the image of the narrator burning in flames, distinctive of a journey to hell. Afterwards, the narrator pronounces his solitary journey when he utters that [he] was the only passenger, in the bus to Corkscrew. Considering the usual depiction of hell, as a place people must confront alone, the quote underlines the speakers supreme solitude during his tormenting descent. Simultaneously, the speaker describes the disruption of silence due to the fact, the driver cursed the necessity of stopping to feed his clattering machine more water. Through the citation, the author presents an allusion to Charon, bearing in mind, that Greek mythology describes the way as an extensive meander with an agonizing silence; adjoining to the suggestion, of the speakers incapability of escaping from odyssey. Furthermore, the diction feed personifies the vehicle; implying human weaknesses, like hunger, are what drive people into hell since that forced them to stop and take longer on their way. Accordingly, the narrator realizes the ultimate destiny of his journey as he approaches it. The narrators passage through hells gates ends up giving him a mournful tone as he approaches the city, and ends up rationalizing his trip to hell through his characterization. Sweltering, agonizing, and secluded, the narrator steadily continues his journey to Corkscrew as he aspires to bang out of existence in one explosive flash. Nevertheless, [he] didnt care if, he died. The hyperbolic aspect of his intended death stresses the mans desperation and regret, transmitting the appalling tone, in order to avoid his known destiny. Positing his characterization as a pessimistic, despondent, and afflicted man. The depiction accentuates what aspects oblige a person to endure the austere conditions of that day; and eventually go to the ghoulish Corkscrew. Suddenly the speaker topped a sharp ridge and slid down into Corkscrew. The succinct visual imagery presents the narrators passage through the devilish portal. Considering that the diction slid down suggests the narrators fall into abyss. Hammett utilizes a concise paragraph, signifying the gates thinness. Allowing the reader to intuit the characters promenade through the entrance. Marking the shift from the scalding heat on the road, to the blistering heat in Corkscrew. Thus, once the speaker has gone through he realizes that Corkscrew wouldnt have been impressive at any time. The haughty tone, confirms the protagonists suspicion about Corkscrew, a city of heinous morals.

NYC Subway Strike in 2005 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
NYC Subway Strike in 2005 - Essay Example On the other side, the transit workers have bigger wages than the teachers although their work is unqualified . In December 2005 the contract between Transport Workers Union and Metropolitan Transportations Authority expired so they had to sign another one. The two parts didn't agree because the Union asked wages too big and the MTA wanted to increase the retirement age from 55 to 62 and the retirement funds would have been reduced. These demands were considered unacceptable for the transit workers and MTA didn't drop out their requirements mostly because of the Taylor Law, which was very much used by the Metropolitan Authority during that period. The public employees fair employment(or the Taylor Law) defines the rights and obligations for public employees. If they have the right to organize and to elect their union representatives they are not allowed to strike. The fine for striking is twice the employees' salary for each day the strike lasts. MTA relied on this law and thought the workers will not strike. Christmas time was an important period for New York and the renewal of the contract overlapped with this moment. The Transport Workers Union took advantage of this, thinking that in this way they will obtain all their claims. The Union wanted raises of salary(6% per year for each of the five years of contract) , more expensive accommodation for maternity leave, finance for station maintenance , to lower the age of retirement from 55 to 66(while MTA wanted to raise it), improved health plans and a stronger pension fund. They didn't agree with the age of retirement or the percent for health insurance. One of the most intriguing demands of MTA was that the new workers should contribute to their pension plan with 6% of gross salary and to pay 1% for their health insurance and offered only 3.5% raise every year. However it should be specified that the average salary for a normal New Yorker is 45.000 dollars a year while that of an employee in public transportation is 51.000 dollars a year, with the mention that a bus or subway operator could earn even 63.000 dollars a year. During the strike seven million people were forced to go to work on foot or by bike , and the whole system almost collapsed .Some blamed the strikers for the crisis, saying that their wages are big enough for an unqualified work and some blamed MTA for taking advantage of the Taylor Law and having exaggerating demands. However 54% of the New Yorkers believed the complaints and requirements of the Union were fair and 36% didn't agree with it. The city was the one that suffered most from this crisis because all happened during the holidays and the tourist season when the city is like a throng. One thing is for sure none of the two parts didn't think at these. MTA thought they could ask anything because the Taylor Law would allow them and the Union speculated the period hoping that they will get what they want. The public response about who was responsible for the strike was once again divided: 41% said the both sides are guilty, 27% that MTA was to blame and 25% didn't agree with

Technology in Our Life Essay Example for Free
Technology in Our Life Essay Way too dependent on technology Most kids these days dont even know how to use a dictionary because Google has it all so they dont see it as a necessary skill. Look around at how many people are engrossed in their phones walking down the street, or while driving. Most accidents are caused by people using their phones while driving, whether it be for GPS, to get on Facebook or anything else. Its insane for some people to fathom how anyone ever lived without texting, GPS, and Google. Technology is a big help and a big problem. Social Blindness Essay -- Sociology
Blinded Total darkness can take over onesââ¬â¢ sight, leaving the individual barely capable of forming cognitive images, and experiencing the inevitable dependency on the words of others, thus allowing physical blindness to cripple even the most independent of individuals. Thesis Statement: According to Dictionary. Reference. Com palm reading is the practice of interpreting ones character from the lines and configurations of the palm of the hand . D. Credibility Statement: Throughout my life I have always heard bad things about palm reading, since its accuracy has always been questioned because it has always been linked with forecasting and never been proven with any scientific facts to back it up. It is wrap off ! Owe could you believe in such things ! They use you in order to take your money. After deep research I concluded that its not what people actually think it is a simple process based on our biological features and our nervous system. It is an art practiced worldwide and with Indian astrology roots . E. Preview of main points: I will discuss how palm reading is related to the nerves and brain. Body A. In Order to understand how to read a palm we must first understand how does this process work . 1. Our nerves have a long path that begins with the brain and ends at our body extremities : the hands and the feet. . This connection between our nerve endings and our brains is thus what makes our mental thoughts reflect into our hands. Making everything we want, do, behave, love or hate visible. Transition: The first question asked about palm reading is which hand to read? B. The Palm reader usually chooses each person's dominant hand. 1 . The dominant hand is the passive hand the one you usually use the most and write with , it is all the experiences gained through-out your life while the non dominant hand is considered the experiences you will go through in the future . . The next step is determining the shape of the palms , we have 4 shapes unhand : the Earth hands which are square in shape with short fingers. People with Earth hands are practical, stubborn and love outdoors activities. 2. The Second shape is the air hands that are square in shape with long fingers. People with these kind of hands are curious, full of ideas, worry a lot, good communicators, but may have problems with private relationships . 3. The third shape is the fire hands that have a long palm but short fingers.People with fire hands are full of energy, spontaneous, optimistic, active, but have of lack patience . 4. The last shap e is the Water hands that are rectangular in heap with long fingers. People with water hands are very moody yet loving, caring, don't cope well with stress . Transition: Now we move on to the 3 major lines of the palm. C. Each line of the three tells a different story about each individual . 1. Im going to start with the top line in our hands, the heart line. It is the line that determines the sensitivity and the emotional aspects of a person. If the line starts below the index finger, it means that he is happily in a relationship. Whereas if the line starts below the middle finger, it means that an individual is selfish when it comes to love. If it starts in the middle, then it means that an individual falls in love very easily. However, the curvier the line is the more romantic the individual is, and the straighter it is the less romantic a person is. If it touches life line then it means that the individual is easily heartbroken. But when the line is Www then it means that the indi vidual has experienced many relationships and lovers. Finally a circle on the line means that the individual is sad with his life . 2. The Second Line , is the middle one The Head Line . Alt determines how focused or easily distracted a person is. When the line is short, it resembles that an individual is short and direct to the point, whereas the longer it is the more creative and thoughtful an individual is, but the straighter it is, it means that the individual has very clear thoughts. Finally, if the head line is wavy, it means that the individual has a lack of concentration. 3. The curves beside the thumb represent the third major line the life line, the closer they are to the thumb the less enthusiastic and passionate for life the individual is, while the curvier they are it means that an individual has a great eve for life , if it swings out it shows that the individual likes to travel often, but if there are breaks it means that the individual has a weak immune system.Any add itional line means that an individual is surrounded with positive vibes. Ill. Conclusion: A. Review of main points: So Palm reading does not tell you the number of kids your going to have , nor at what age will you die or the name of the pet your going to bring next year. It is a simple art that interprets your personality through the reading of your palms and not a fortune telling myth. B. Closure: Now that you all know everything about palm eating you can each know more about your own personality. True or not.It is an easy, fun unharmed process that takes only a couple of minutes. Palm Reading Palmistry We all wonder what awaits us in the future. We wonder about our health, our careers and of course, our love life. Well the answer to all of these questions may lie quite literally in the palm of your hand. Palmistry, or palm reading, is the practice of predicting the future outcomes through the study of the palm. This study dates back to 3000 BC in ancient Egypt and still being practiced today worldwide. Today we will discuss how our palm lines can tell us about our future and ourselves, as well as learn the basics on how to read a palm.Which will include the four major lines: the heart, head, life and fate line. First of all, how is that our future can be determined through mere palm lines? We all know that our physical health can be affected by stress and psychological negativity. Our mental outlook and attitudes also form our reactions to lifeââ¬â¢s events. According to the journal, ââ¬Å"English Literature in Transitionâ⬠by Joan Navarre, the brain, through the high concentration of nerves in the hands, can influence the condition of the palms and the patterns of the lines in them.Itââ¬â¢s Also important to know that our palm lines are not fixed and we are not doomed to a future already set in stone. In fact, our palm lines change throughout our lifetime, some more frequently than others. As we mature and change our ways, our palm lines will modify accordingly. They may get deeper, straighter, form new lines, or some may even disappear. In addition to changing lines, as you have probably noticed already, the lines on your left and right hand differ. Your weaker hand, whether it be right or left, represents what we are born with and our private self. The stronger hand represents what we do with our lives, the actions we take and our public self. According to the article, ââ¬Å"A Modern Palmistâ⬠, by Ania Blomberg, in the Feb 2011 issue of the ââ¬Å"Torquay Herald Expressâ⬠Your current palm lines are indicators of the likelih ood something will happen, as well as a window into your past. Our Next step is learning our major palm lines. The first of the major lines we will discuss is the heart line. It begins on the side of the hand, spans across the palm and ends in various places. If it ends under the first finger it signifies an introspective and possibly self-centered person. If under the second finger, you are a giver and always put the needs of others before your own. Ideally, the heart line should end between the first two fingers, signifying a balance between giving and receiving. A straight heart line suggests your head gets involved in matters of the heart. In other words, You donââ¬â¢t let your emotions make your decisions for you. A curved heart line indicates you are a romantic and always wear your heart on your sleeve. For most people the heart line is the deepest and darkest line on the palm. The second line is the head line. It begins on the side of your hand under your first finger spanni ng across the palm ending at various lengths. If your head line is straight you are logical, detail oriented and organized. If your line is curved, you are more creative and artistic. According to the book ââ¬Å"The Hand from A-Z: The essentials of Palmistryâ⬠by Judith Hipskind, The length of the head line symbolizes your attention span and ability to concentrate. The longer the head line the more focused you are.Additionally, If there is a fork at the end of the head line, it means you can see both sides of an issue and will love debating. This is sometimes called a lawyers fork. The third of the major lines is the life line. According to humanhand. com, in modern palmistry the life line does not tell you how long you will live but how you will live. It does however represent a timeline of events. The area where it begins, between the thumb and first finger, represents the beginning of your life, then curving down around your thumb and ending at your wrist, which would repre sent old age.Lines crossing the life line signify important events, and where they are located indicates when the events are likely to happen. If your life line sweeps out toward the center of your hand, you will most likely seek independence and travel often. By contrast, If it hugs close to your thumb you are more likely to stay close to home and family. If caught in between, you may struggle between security and the need for independence. Breaks in the life line can indicate times of major illness or stress. If you notice smaller, fainter lines that connect the life and heart line, they indicate strong romantic relationships. Where they are located on the life line represents at what point in life the relationship is likely to happen. In addition, the number of these lines suggests how many of these relationships you are likely to have. Finally we come to the Fate line. This line begins near the heel of the hand and runs through the center towards the middle finger. According to p almistryfree. com, this line is volatile and only found in about 50% of the population. It is tied to your personal life path, including school, career choices, successes and obstacles. If this line is absent, you are unsure of the direction of your life. If your fate line is strong, you have specific goals and direction. If only lightly etched you could easily waver between the two. The beginning and ending of the line also plays a role. When the fate line begins on the wrist, you have always done things your own way and may be a bit of an oddball. If it begins more toward the center of your hand, it took a while for you to figure out who you are and what to want to be.Now that you know how our palm lines come to be and how to examine your own heart, head, life and fate lines, you can predict what sort of future to expect for yourself if you continue down your current path. However, it is ultimately our will that shapes our lives, not our palm. The practice of reading palm lines is not to predict doom, or even happiness. They are instead a guide. The purpose of palmistry is to help you see the way ahead so you can actively plan a successful and prosperous future.
